GEORGE TOWN: The Sungai Perak Raw Water Transfer Scheme is the most cost-effective solution that will have the lowest impact on future water tariffs, says the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP).
Its chief executive officer K. Pathmanathan said the scheme will optimise an existing raw water resource that is under-utilised and potentially address the raw water needs of Penang and Perak until 2050.
He said the implementation should be regarded as good news for Penangites and Perakians, especially those in north Perak. He said PBAPP needed to tap a second raw water resource for Penang because the state had become “over-dependent” on Sungai Muda as its one and only primary raw water resource. Pathmanathan said about 80% of the raw water used by PBAPP to produce treated water for Penang daily is abstracted from Sungai Muda.
