“One of the big amenities of this building is its proximity to Central Park and that there are outdoor green spaces around. We wanted to create that connection to the inside,” he says.Wesgroup’s Joey Coupland and project construction coordinator Taylor Woodcock. Wesgroup Properties will be deconstructing its kitchen and bathroom show suites so the cabinetry can be reused.
“These show suites are essentially brand new,” Coupland says. “We do use them for a year or two just to show people through, but they’re in perfect condition at the end of the day. So we just kind of deconstruct the kitchens and the bathrooms, including toilets and vanities.”“Typically, it’s cabinets from kitchens and bathrooms, countertops, sinks from kitchens and bathrooms, and toilets,” she explains. “The mirrors tend to break in the deconstruction stage, so we haven’t been able to keep that.
“We would absolutely love to hear from other organizations who would benefit from it,” Coupland says.Designing community connectionsIt will be bittersweet when Aldergrove Mall is demolished to make way for a revitalization of the town centre. While letting go of the past can be difficult, the mall has been struggling for years. A new plan by developer Janda Group will create a mix of residential and commercial properties to complement growth in the area.
