Lesser known berry grows around Sudbury and can be used in jams, jellies, juices and teas
If you’ve been curious about some of the more unknown plants in Sudbury, and what to do with them, then be sure to register for the workshop taking place at Season's Pharmacy & Culinaria on Wednesday, Oct. 12. at 5:30 p.m.
Sudbury Shared Harvest is offering a cooking workshop focused on one of the lesser known products of local food forests, a berry called ‘aronia’. Dietitian Tammy Cheguis will show participants how to cook with the berries, a native plant that is easy to grow and produces berries that are especially rich in anthocyanins.
Aronia berries can be found in the Delki food forest and other Sudbury locations and is much more commonly used in parts of Eastern Europe, where the very sour berries are often made into wine, jams, juices, teas and as a flavouring for beverages and yogurts. The workshop is free, but space is limited so registration is required. For more information about Sudbury Shared Harvest, or to register for the program, visit their website here
