IPOH: The study on the viability of the Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit (ART) system for Ipoh still needs more time to be completed, says Datuk Rumaizi Baharin.
The Ipoh mayor said the changes in the latest technology have caused the private company that is doing the study to look at options other than the ART system.
"We used to have the Mass Rail Transit , then we have ART and now there are newer systems, including the bus rapid transit . "The company is looking at the new ones and one that is best for Ipoh," he said after opening a cafe at Jalan Lasam here on Monday ."We want the best technology for the city but it cannot be too advanced, as we may not be able to support it or too old, as it may not be worth it," he added.
In August last year, Rumaizi said the study on whether the ART system is more suited for Ipoh, instead of light rail transit , was being conducted and a proposal was expected to be submitted to the Ipoh City Council in January.
