Students Celebrate Philippine Culture at 'Diwang' Competition

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) held the 'Diwang: Sagisag Kultura ng Filipinas' competition, culminating in a final stage at MICE Convention Center, Quezon City. Students from various levels competed in categories like Pagbigkas ng Tula, Balagtasan, Kundiman, and Spoken Word Poetry.

Students from all levels in Metro Manila and the provinces competed in various categories at the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA)-organized 'Diwang: Sagisag Kultura ng Filipinas' at the culmination and final stage of the competition. The winners were proclaimed at MICE Convention Center, Quezon City. Finalists in Pagbigkas ng Tula, Balagtasan, Kundiman and Spoken Word Poetry battled it out for the win, with the best performers proclaimed by the respective judges.

Present during the competition finals on November 22 were former NCCA Chairman Felipe De Leon Jr. and judges such as renowned author and National Artist for Literature Virgilio Almario. Almario also launched his new book, 'Ano Ang Demokrasya?' before the announcement of winners. Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte also joined the awards ceremony to congratulate the winners. For Pagbigkas ng Tula (Grade 2), the winners were Luke Agpalza, Diosdado P. Macapagal Elementary School, 1st Place; Princess MJ Atanante, Payatas B Elementary School, 2nd; and Raven Solano, Project 6 Special Science Elementary School, 3rd. The Grade 5 winners for the same category were Jaycer Roey Lerio, Melencio M. Castelo Elementary School, 1st; Ryanna Serenna De Leon, GSIS Village Elementary School, 2nd; and Audrey Cabaluna, Diosdado P. Macapagal Elementary School, 3rd. The Junior High School Grade 9 winners were Dickies Khristoffer Mabilog, Novaliches High School, 1st; Alexander Jerard Aringo, Quezon City Science High School, 2nd; and John Lorence Menil, Ismael Mathay Sr. High School, 3rd. The winners of Spoken Poetry, Senior High School, were Mary Alstien Pacheco, San Francisco High School, 1st; Angel Fiona Verona, Juan Sumulong High School, 2nd; and Mac Clarence Añora, North Fairview High School, 3rd. The Balagtasan champion was the Polytechnic University of the Philippines team of Angelica Andan, Angelica Malillin and Ryan Emmanuel Molina, with Arlan Manalon Camba as coach
