Police are hunting the perpetrators of an ATM robbery after the machine found forcibly opened, emptied, and dumped on a public soccer field.
Officers were called to a reserve in Klemzig at about 4.40am Monday where the stolen ATM was found on the soccer pitch. It had been opened forcibly with all the cash contents emptied from inside. About 20 minutes later, a fire brigade was called to Harvey Street in Nailsworth, about 4km north of the Adelaide CBD, following reports of an ablaze vehicle.
Metropolitan Fire Services arrived and successfully extinguished the fire, but the Toyota RAV 4 car had been destroyed and reduced to ruins. SAPOL is investigating links between the two incidents. At about 6am, a petrol station employee on Stephens Terrace in St Peters called up police after arriving at work and finding the station had been broken into, with the ATM missing. Anyone with information relating to these events is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au
