A Crypto Swami, Love Island influencer, Shakespeare and Machiavelli all offer insights into moral standards and chasing profits in markets.
It’s no surprise the self-confessed cranky Swami, obsessed with Twitter, penny stock promoters and morality, suffered a car crash in Australia’s defamation courts.
In effect what Stock Swami claims is his higher moral purpose fell flat against the principle that making positive representations about a business at the same time as selling shares is not misleading under the law. It’s part of the market and society as we know it. Two hundred years later, Shakespeare’s Hamlet complains about his circumstances when trapped in Denmark by saying, “there’s nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.”
It’s also decentralised, apolitical and unregulated. Factors that many participants use to absolve themselves from any moral duty inferred by society to not mislead or deceive.
