A top doctor has issued an urgent health warning after a thick cloud of smoke blanketed Brisbane, creating air quality levels worse than Delhi.
The warning comes as Queensland’s Fire and Emergency Services conducts its annual hazard reduction burns in parks and forests to prepare for the upcoming bushfire season.
The Department of Environment and Science on Monday night recorded that the concentration of pollution particles in the air at its Deagon station was 20 times the World Health Organisation’s annual air quality guideline and double that of Delhi’s.Dr Yim told Sky News Australia the smoke has posed a serious risk to all Queenslanders, but especially those already suffering with respiratory issues.
“Please carry your reliever with you, so those are your Ventolin puffers, make sure you keep them in your pocket because it can trigger a bit of an asthma… attack.” “We have about two weeks to get all of this through before conditions are too dry again,” he said in a social media video.
