PUTRAJAYA, Aug 9 — The number of live births in Malaysia increased by 13 per cent to 105,961 in the second quarter of 2023 from 93,799 births in the corresponding period last year, according to the Demographic Statistics released by the Department of Statistics Malaysia today.
“Selangor recorded the highest live births with 20,477 births, while Labuan recorded the lowest at 357 births,” he said. Selangor recorded the highest number of deaths in the second quarter of 2023 with 7,765 deaths while Putrajaya had the lowest with 73 deaths, he said. Mohd Uzir said Malaysia’s population in the second quarter of 2023 was estimated at 33.4 million, an increase of 2.1 per cent from 32.7 million in the second quarter of 2022.
