Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s state visit indicates the “closeness” of Australia’s relationship with the US, according to Perth USAsia Centre CEO Gordon Flake.
“The fact that other than India, France and South Korea, Australia is the only international leader that has been afforded this honour – the full 19-gun salute and the state dinner tonight, as well as a full week of activities, it does indicate the closeness of the relationship,” he told Sky News Australia.Mr Albanese’s state visit comes just a week before he will head to Beijing for the first trip to China by an Australian Prime Minister since 2016.
Mr Gordon said, “You can look at the full spectrum of everything from AUKUS and security, to economics and trade, to international relations – there is hardly any area in global policy where Australia and the US aren’t working together.”
