Star Magic’s online workshops to continue despite denied ABSCBNfranchise
This was confirmed this Saturday, a day after ABS-CBN's franchise application was rejected by lawmakers, throwing the future of many of the network's employees and artists into uncertainty.
Star Magic is the talent arm of ABS-CBN, and it said in a statement that it will be continuing its online workshops and classes despite the verdict, even opening them up for new enrolees. "No pandemic or shutdown will hinder our growth in the performing arts," Star Magic said. "We will continue to be in the service of the Filipino. Thank you Kapamilya."
A House committee decided on Friday to deny ABS-CBN's franchise application, amid the already growing concerns over media freedom under the current administration. A number of Star Magic artists have condemned the verdict, among them Kim Chiu, maintaining that their home network has not committed violations and that it deserves a franchise.
