says he may have to let one of his staff members go after receiving an electricity bill that had more than doubled compared to the same time last year., took to social media on Friday, sharing a bill he had just received for the months of April, May and June 2023.
To combat the rising cost of energy, he has been upgrading his store over the past few years, rewiring it, changing the lights to LED ones and installing new energy-efficient fridges and air conditioners. Hazem Sedda received an electricity bill for $10,000, more than double what he paid during the same time last year. While he admits his energy use was a little bit higher this year compared to this time 12 months ago, he said it wasn’t enough to warrant such a significant increase in his bill.“If in winter $10,000 ... that means in summer it’s going to be $20,000. That’s a massive, big jump.
“We might have to lose one of our staff to cover the electricity because we might survive without one of our staff, but we can’t survive without the electricity.”Sedda said he intended to contact his electricity provider, EnergyAustralia to discuss the significant increase.
