It is disappointing to see the independents, who were elected on platforms of integrity, egging on Labor to break its election promise.
In the lead-up to its first budget since 2013, Labor has confirmed it has no plan and no integrity on tax. What is more, the teals have also given Labor the green light to dump the biggest reform to income taxes in 30 years.
Certainly, Labor took a big spending agenda to the election – $18 billion of additional spending. Now it is now trying to find a way for you to pay for it.at not one but two elections, in 2019 and 2022. That’s why Labor gritted its teeth and publicly and repeatedly promised in the most recent election campaign to see them through.
Any suggestion that dumping a tax cut that starts in 2024-25 will have an impact on the economy now is rubbish. It certainly will have no impact on the cost of living or inflation right now. Dumping the tax cuts will only mean that Labor and Jim Chalmers have even less incentive to keep their spending plans under control. Increasing the tax you have to pay makes life easier for them. You work hard so they don’t have to.
