Allaster will transition to a special advisor role after this coming summer’s competition

Stacey Allaster, seen in an Aug. 8, 2013, file photo, will transition from her position as U.S. Open tournament director and chief executive of professional tennis to a special advisor role. The 2025 U.S. Open will be Stacey Allaster’s last in the tournament director’s seat, as the Canadian executive begins to close out a nearly 40-year career in tennis.

Allaster, who will turn 62 in July, says her next chapter will be centred around fun, freedom of time, having an impact on youth sport – especially for girls – and supporting today’s female leaders in sport. Allaster’s earliest job in tennis was cleaning courts as a 12-year-old at her hometown tennis club in Welland, Ont. Over the years, the worked at the Ontario Tennis Association, then in various roles at Tennis Canada, including as Canadian Open tournament director.

But the USTA lured her back to the sport six months later, with a tailor-made job offer she couldn’t refuse – to oversee the strategic vision for its pro tennis division, like the U.S. Open, plus Davis Cup, Billie Jean King Cup, Laver Cup and the Olympics. She could remain mostly in the U.S., primarily at the USTA’s headquarters in Orlando, and in New York.

The USTA said its search for a new tournament director will begin after the 2025 U.S. Open, and Allaster will help select her successor. Her special-advisor role with the USTA is slated to run through 2026. She says she’s unlikely to take on another high-profile executive job after that, but she’ll be open to projects in sports and entertainment.
