The 6-foot-4 forward was taken 86th overall by the Blues back in 2020.
The St. Louis Blues have announced that they have signed forward Dylan Peterson to a two-year, entry-level contract that will kick in for the 2024-25 season.
Peterson was taken 86th overall by the Blues back in 2020. The 6-foot-4 forward spent the past four years with Boston University, registering a career-high 20 points in 35 games this year. The rugged center also set a career-high with 73 penalty minutes, beating his previous best of 26 last year. Prior to starting his college career, Peterson spent two years with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program. He played some of his best hockey at the 2018 U-17 World Challenge, but didn’t get a chance to play at the U-18 World Championship due to COVID-19 in 2020.
Peterson was born in California but played much of his minor hockey in the Ottawa region. He was a dangerous two-way forward at the U-18 level, earning him a spot on USA’s U-17 team the following season. The 22-year-old isn’t known for his offensive abilities, but he is difficult to play against. It helps that he’s the size he is, allowing him to take space away at both ends of the ice, especially in front of the net. He should have no issue adjusting to playing minor pro with the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds next year, and might even earn some playing time in St. Louis’ bottom-six.
