“So for governments, it makes a lot of sense . But when we talk about sports, sports is, and I’m going to use the word pedestrian, not because I believe so, but because a lot of other people look at it . In the grand scheme of things, it is a bit of apples and oranges because the Toronto Maple Leafs are not the federal government planning covert operations in the South Pacific .”.
Naraine also noted that since the Leafs have been drawing younger fans in recent years, the TikTok deal is a no-brainer. “The Maple Leafs have become an edgier, hipper, cooler sports property when we think about the youthfulness, when we think about Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews,” he said. “It’s cool again to wear the Maple Leaf on your sweater. So for younger fans in particular who are on TikTok, and with the amount of engagement TikTok gets, it actually makes a lot of sense why the Maple Leafs would want to be on TikTok and partner with them.”
