LFA 33 saw its season start on Nov. 29. LFA 34 is still awaiting a start day. The issue is weather.

In LFA 34 meanwhile – which extends from Baccaro to Burns Point, Digby County, and takes in all of Yarmouth County – fishers must wait for a break in the weather before they can head to sea to begin their season. LFA 34 port reps held a pre-season call on Wednesday morning, Nov. 30, but no vote was taken.

In the Bay of Fundy this fall where lobster fisheries are open in LFAs 35, 36, 37 and 38, fishers have been receiving between $6 to $7 a pound for their catch, said Cotter, which is down compared to last year. “The market has been tough and the quality hasn’t been 100 percent up that way,” he noted. The Heat Seeker steams out from the Port LaTour wharf in Shelburne County to wish their loved ones a safe start to the opening of the lobster season in LFA 33 on Nov. 29. KATHY JOHNSON
