The revelation from the NSW gaming regulator comes as new data reveals venues with late-night trading hours almost double their pokie profits.

Dominic Perrottet’s push for cashless gaming cards is facing opposition from clubs, who say it is “reckless and unproven”.ClubsNSW and the NSW Australian Hotels Association argue that moving to a cashless system would be too costly for venues and would see thousands of job losses in the industry. Its guidelines said there was “a growing evidence base” that showed a “significantly higher risk of harm associated with the use of electronic gaming machines compared to other types of gambling”, and problem gamblers were likely to be “over-represented” among poker machine players between midnight and 4am, “particularly after 2am”.
In addition to the guidelines, the Responsible Gambling Fund has provided funding for the regulator to carry out research on who plays poker machines after midnight, and the impact late-night trading has on problem gamblers and shift workers.
