Joel Ewert and B.C. wheelchair basketball team advance to semifinals
The Hanson brothers came out to play Wednesday at the Canada Winter Games and it paid off in a silver medal.
Jack Hanson and his brother Kieran, who cut their teeth racing for the Prince George Blizzard Speed Skating Club and now call Fort St. John their home, teamed up with Fort St. John residents Matthew Mitchell and Nicolas Guliov to win the silver medal in the male long track team pursuit Wednesday at Halifax Oval.The Hansons will be back on the track Thursday at 5:45 a.m. PT for the 5,000 m event.
In other Prince George results, Joel Ewert and his B.C. wheelchair basketball team remained undefeated atop the Pool B standings after they defeated Alberta 69-43 Wednesday in Charlottetown, P.E.I.Team B.C. advances to the semifinal round on Friday and will play the winner of Wednesday’s Newfoundland-Manitoba playoff.
Prince George hockey players Ryder Green, Cameron Schmidt and Chase Harrington had a day off Wednesday while they awaited results of qualification round games to determine Thursday’s quarterfinal matchups.Prince George biathletes Liam Simons and Aliah Turner will be back on the course Thursday morning for the individual events. Simons won the bronze medal in Tuesday’s male pursuit and will line up for a 12.5 km individual race Thursday at 6 a.m. PT.B.C.
