The exhibit features artworks from the NHCP collection that immortalize Dr. Rizal's life, ideals and sacrifices, offering a deeper understanding of his enduring influence on the nation.Severable notable artworks will be included such as National Artist Carlos 'Botong' Francisco's'Exile in Dapitan,' a painting renderd in sombre shades of blue and green that portrays the clandestine meeting between Rizal and Dr. Pio Valenzuela; Rizal's terracotta statuette 'Triumph of Death Over Life,' a poignant symbol of the intricate connection between life and mortality; and Fernando Amorsolo's posthumous portrait of 'Rizal as a Mason,' distinguished by the artist's signature soft diffused lighting that imbues the piece with warmth and humanity.The exhibit, running for a month, hopes to inspire appreciation for the legacy of one of our national heroes.For the 128th remembrance of his martyrdom, the theme 'Rizal: Sa Bagong Pilipinas, Buhay at Aral Aming Nilalandas' hopes to serve as an opportunity for Filipinos to reflect on the values that his heroism exemplifies and how these may serve as a foundation for our future.The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums, research, and publications, and to preserve historical heritage through conservation and the marking of historic sites and structures.Art workshop at NHCP Museo ni Jose Rizal Fort SantiagoIn anticipation of the 170th birth anniversary of artist Telesforo Sucgang who was born on Jan. 5, 1855, NHCP Museo ni Jose Rizal Fort Santiago in partnership with the Telesforo Alayon Sucgang Legacy Initiative Team, Quezon's Artistry and Creativity, and Urban Sketchers Manila, with the special participation of the NHCP Museum of Philippine Maritime History, shall be hosting and facilitating the portraiture workshop 'Hagod Rizal'' at the NHCP Museo ni Jose Rizal Fort Santiago grounds on 30 Dec. 30, 2024, 10 a.m.Guest artists from the Quezon's Artistry and Creativity will also hold an artist talk and exhibition walk-through, with art works and advocacy geared toward the theme 'Rizal's Legacy Toward Unity, Hope and Change.'The commemorative plein air 'Jose & Telesforo Sketchwalk' with artist participants from Urban Sketchers Manila will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the same day.This exhibition hopes to provide a deeper visual grasp on the life and works of Telesforo Sucgang, the artist with an unembellished representation of Rizal, and whose influence continues to resonate among other works honouring one of our national heroes.In line with this, the country's 128th commemoration of Rizal's martyrdom will be remembered with the theme 'Rizal: Sa Bagong Pilipinas, Buhay at Aral Aming Nilalandas.'NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums, research, and publications, and to preserve historical heritage through conservation and the marking of historic sites and structures.
