Southern Alberta logged two significant tornadoes in 2022: report yyc

A second EF2 tornado touched down later that month, striking Cypress County near Medicine Hat just around 1:10 p.m. on July 18. That storm had a 7.8-km path with a maximum 300-metre width, causing some damage, including to grain bins.The other six tornadoes logged in Alberta over the 2022 season were all below EF2 on the Enhanced Fujita scale, indicating an estimated maximum wind speed below 178 km/h.
That’s a significantly higher count than Canada’s historical average based on data from 1980 to 2009, which estimated the country got only about 62 tornadoes yearly.
