The North said its latest attempt to launch a military satellite failed on May 27 during the flight of the rocket’s first stage.

The one-minute, black-and-white video provided by the South’s Joint Chiefs of Staff showed what appeared to beThe footage was filmed by an observation device on a South Korean patrol vessel, the JCS said.

An initial analysis suggested that the cause was a newly developed liquid fuel rocket motor, but other possible causes were being investigated, a report carried by state media KCNA said. South Korea and US authorities believe the projectile exploded after flying for a few minutes, according to South Korea’s presidential office.

The object fired by North Korea disappeared over the Yellow Sea, Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi told reporters. He accused North Korea of violating UN Security Council resolutions with the launch.
