Rev. Matthew Forrest with stockings that were donated to Souls Harbour Truro. - Brendyn Creamerannual stocking drive is back in full swing this holiday season to bring some Christmas cheer to those less fortunate.
“It’s just a present from the community to our guests to help them get through the holiday season,” said Forrest. “For a lot of them, it’s the only gift they get because their families are far-off, estranged or they don’t have a lot of community outside of what they do here.” Forrest stated a dollar store is a great place to go if people were looking to donate since they can buy a stocking and stuff it themselves.
The stocking drive is just one way Souls Harbour contributes to the community. From Monday to Friday, they host a hot meal program that allows people to come in and have a free lunch. This is held from noon to 2 p.m. “It’s a lot of just whatever Truro needs at the moment,” said Forrest. “Whoever walks through the door, we’ll see what we can do.”“It’s getting busier every day as inflation goes up, prices get more expensive,” explained Forrest. “Food is going up, so our numbers are steadily increasing again.”
