The mother of a man who fell to his death from a North York highrise while police were on scene has released a statement for Family Day.

, Toronto police were called to an apartment on Jane Street and Finch Avenue West on Oct. 13, 2022, where a man was reportedly throwing objects from a balcony. The SIU said three officers tried to negotiate with him, and were joined by another three officers from the Emergency Task Force, before Ramroop fell from the window in the course of negotiations.
While a mobile crisis intervention team exists — a program that pairs a mental health nurse with a specially-trained police officer — Martino said strategies, like rappelling down the roof or storming the bedroom were considered but ruled out, claiming Ramroop was “erratic and possibly armed with a knife.” The report also mentioned “arrangements were being made to have a forensic psychiatrist attend the scene,” but Ramroop fell before this could happen.
