A man will undergo surgery and have pins put in his cheeks after an injury on a Lime scooter left him battered and bruised.
Dylan Pires, a father of four, was riding along Helen Street in Brisbane's Teneriffe when he claims the wheels locked up without warning, sending him flying over the handlebars. “I was riding, I just remember I went over a bump and then it just went to a sudden stop, I had no control,” he said. The incident comes just weeks after Lime convinced Brisbane City Council the scooters were safe, after the council had put them on notice.
Lime has previously admitted to a glitch in its software causing the brakes to lock unexpectedly, but today the company doubled down.“People fall off scooters and bikes for any number of reasons. Our scooters are safe.” Mr Pires admits he should have been wearing a helmet, but it also considering legal action.
“Even if it means taking them all off the road and getting each one tested, it's got to happen because someone is going to die soon,” he said.
