Some Vancouver Island schools closed Friday for second snow day this week
With a snowfall warning in effect for east and inland Vancouver Island and up to 15 centimetres expected to fall throughout the day into Saturday, the two school districts have announced closures for Friday, Dec. 2.closed Friday
, meaning all in-person, digital and blended classes are cancelled, while the Mixalakwila campus in Port Hardy is open. “This difficult decision was made out of an abundance of caution with student and staff safety in mind,” SD71 said in a notice. “Many roads, side streets, pathways and routes into school for staff and students are not cleared or safe for travel.”
SD72 took to social media, saying evening events and facility rentals are also cancelled, adding, “If you are a group that had reserved the use of one of our facilities, please contact the school board office to reschedule or receive a refund.” Due to the snow fall warning by Environment Canada calling for 5-10 cm today Comox Valley Schools will be closed today Friday, December 2.
