SIBU: A heavy thunderstorm at about 6.10pm on Wednesday (April 5) uprooted about 15 trees while some houses had their roofs blown off here.
The Sibu Civil Defence Force said they had received calls from the public for assistance to remove 15 trees which had caused roads to become inaccessible.
The roads blocked by the uprooted trees were Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Jalan Dr Wong Soon Kai, Jalan Pahlawan, Jalan Deshon, Jalan Teng Chin Hua, Jalan Pahlawan, Ulu Sungai Merah dan Jalan Merdeka.Sibu Municipal Council chairman Clarence Ting advised motorists to exercise caution when on the road. He said he had also received a number of complaints from the public on uprooted trees."I remind the public to be careful when driving along these affected roads or if possible avoid them.
"I also ask the public to stay at home tonight to make way for the removal of these trees to avoid causing traffic congestion," he added.Article type: free
