An aurora australis visible to the naked eye has been seen across Western Australia in the brightest display of southern lights in years.
A solar storm has produced aurora australis visible to the naked eye in southern Western Australia, providing a spectacular light show for photographers.
A geomagnetic storm combined with a cloudless and moonless sky on Sunday evening and Monday morning created ideal conditions. "There was a pale red you could see, massive pillars of lights stretching up the sky and moving across the sky."Photographer Paul Pichugin said the power of the aurora and the lack of a moon made the perfect mix to see it.
