Filipino-born chess players Wesley So and Oliver Barbosa are aiming for a strong performance in the blitz tournament of the 2024 World Rapid & Blitz Championships in New York after facing disappointment in the rapid event. So, who is seeded fourth in the blitz, finished 61st out of 182 participants in the rapid section, while Barbosa, ranked 55th in the blitz, also hopes to improve on his showing.
The blitz tournament, with a 3-minute, 2-second increment, will see the top eight players advance to the knockout stage. The champion will receive $90,000, the second-place finisher $70,000, and the third and fourth-place finishers $42,000 each. The four other qualifiers will each earn $20,000
