That’s equally true of Breckenridge, but the question I always asked myself is why I’d want to spend the extra time and money to go skiing in Colorado when I lived so close to ski and snowboard areas that also attract people from around the world.Fortunately, it did. Want big, steep, high-alpine bowls? Take the Imperial Express up Peak 8. It’s the highest chairlift in North America and there’s not a bad line down — especially on a morning like the one I had on my first day, when 23 cm of fresh powder had fallen overnight. And that’s probably inevitable, because this is the epitome of big-mountain skiing we’re talking about and when Mother Nature decided to welcome me to Colorado with a heavy heaping of powder on my first morning, I’m not exaggerating when I say the upper alpine had the best conditions I’ve ever skied.
The restaurant, Cabin Juice, offered healthy breakfast options — the avocado toast was to die for — great coffee and an après ski happy hour where the bartenders could seemingly whip-up any cocktail you could possibly want. So yeah, you sleep very well and go to bed with a full stomach at Breckenridge, eager to tackle another day on the mountain when you wake up.
