Picture this: a snare drum, drumsticks, microphones, and a wildly creative mind. Kiyasu turns this setup into a spectacle that defies all conventions. He beats that snare drum across the room, his body convulsing in rhythm, creating a performance that’s part music, part art, and entirely mesmerising…One moment, he’s tapping out a soothing drumroll that envelops the audience in resonance, and the next, he’s using his shoe to create beats that echo rebellion.
His inspiration? The legendary Japanese underground musicians from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, like Hanatarashi and Keiji Haino. He thrives on the unpredictable, the surprising, and the downright unconventional. Speaking to, he said, “I want to play new music that nobody has seen or listened to before. I don’t want to do normal stuff – it’s very boring to me. I want people to be surprised, and I want to push the boundaries.
