This was pretty close to Calgary’s opening-night lineup. It can’t be close to their opening-night performance, and they know it. Dan Vladar was once again sharp in Calgary’s crease, although he had a frustrating finish as the Jets cashed a couple of power-play goals in less than a minute near the midway mark of Wednesday’s affair — a one-timer by Kyle Connor after a sweet saucer pass by Sam Gagner and then a top-shelf redirect by Mark Scheifele after a nifty feed from Nikolaj Ehlers.
A few minutes later, Noah Hanifin coughed up a giveaway from behind his own net and couldn’t stop Ehlers from setting up Connor for a freebie.While the visitors did rack up 37 shots at Canada Life Centre, they never did solve old friend David Rittich, now serving as the backup in Winnipeg. “We’ve gotta bring it on Friday, because that’s the last game we’re going to have before Game 1,” Hanifin said. “I think we’re all excited and ready to keep building.”The Flames’ latest addition, Radim Zohorna, doesn’t want to cause any sort of stir. If he requires a new nickname, no problem.
