The annual SMC-PSA Awards Night will celebrate outstanding achievements in Philippine sports, honoring the NCAA's centennial season and recognizing exceptional athletes from various disciplines.
The San Miguel Corporation-Philippine Sports writers Association (SMC-PSA) is set to honor the National Collegiate Athletic Association ( NCAA ) with a special award at its upcoming Awards Night on January 27th at the Manila Hotel's Centennial Hall. This recognition celebrates the NCAA 's centennial season, marking its enduring legacy as a breeding ground for Filipino sporting heroes.
The event, co-presented by ArenaPlus, Cignal, and MediaQuest, will also feature citations for 18 prominent individuals and organizations who achieved remarkable feats in the past year. Among the honorees are the dragon boat national team, the Philippine Volcanoes, weightlifter Angeline Colonia, jiu-jitsu athlete Isabella Joseline Butler, powerlifter Regie Ramirez, and the volleyball powerhouse Creamline. Leading the 2024 honor roll is Carlos Yulo, the gymnastics prodigy, who has been named the Athlete of the Year. Yulo's impressive gold medal haul at various international competitions, including the Men's Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Uzbekistan, the Pacific Rim Championship in Cali, Colombia, and the Hong Kong Invitational, solidified his position as a standout athlete.The SMC-PSA Awards Night is supported by a prestigious array of sponsors, including the Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, MILO, PLDT/Smart, Senator Bong Go, and Januarius Holdings. Additional support comes from the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), Premier Volleyball League (PVL), 1-Pacman Party List, Rain or Shine, Akari, and AcroCity. The event will also recognize the achievements of other notable athletes like Johann Chua and Albert James 'AJ' Manas (billiards), Carl Eldrew Yulo (gymnastics), Ruelle Canino (chess), Kheith Rhynne Cruz (table tennis), Marc Dylan Custodio (bowling), Mark John Lexer Galedo (cycling), Lovely Inan (weightlifting), the Philippine baseball team, Centennial 7 (sailing), Jessa Mae Tabuan (powerlifting), and Ramon 'Tats' Suzara (volleyball)
