The planned multimillion-dollar cycleway along a major stretch of Oxford Street was an election commitment two years ago.

Cyclists will eventually need to cross Oxford Street at Taylor Square because one cycleway is planned for the northern side of the road and the other on the southern side.Paddington’s residents and businesses, along with cycling groups, called on the government and the City of Sydney council to release details of the proposed Oxford Street east cycleway.

The planned Oxford Street east cycleway will run on the southern side of the road through Paddington.“I’m not a NIMBY saying there should not be a cycleway. Clearly there will be one, but the way it is done is the issue,” he said. “Nothing has happened. It just moves too slowly because there is no genuine attempt to listen to the community.

The agency said it was committed to the separated bike path as a “critical missing link in the eastern suburbs cycling corridor” but declined to say when construction would start or what it would cost.
