Expo and Millennium line trains were on time 96.4 per cent of the time in 2018, and major delays were down more than 30 per cent.
The Expo and Millennium SkyTrain lines set their best on-time performance record last year, along with seeing a significant decrease in major system delays.
Delays of between 16 and 30 minutes were down 34 per cent compared to 2017, from 70 incidents to 46, and delays of greater than 30 minutes were down 30 per cent, from 23 incidents to 16. Mike Richard, vice-president of operations for the B.C. Rapid Transit Company, which maintains and operates the Expo and Millennium Lines, said at TransLink’s board of directors meeting on Friday that the on-time performance improvement and reduction in delays happened despite four major events that caused havoc.
Richard attributed the improvements to faster responses to incidents when they occur, increased reliability because of better maintenance practices, and a focus on minimizing the impact issues have on customers.
