PETALING JAYA: National women’s singles shuttler Siti Nurshuhaini Azman is eyeing redemption in the SEA Games in Cambodia from May 5-17 after a disappointing debut in the last edition.

Nurshuhaini was eliminated in the preliminary round of the individual event in Vietnam last year and was also part of the team that shockingly went down 1-3 to the hosts in the quarter-finals of the team competition.“I don’t want to waste this opportunity again,” said Nurshuhaini.“I believe that the lessons learned in my debut Games will help me in my goal.’’

The other women’s singles shuttlers selected for the SEA Games are Tan Zhing Yi , Wong Ling Ching and Ong Xin Yee .The latter had seen her progress hampered by heel and hamstring injuries at the end of last year. Nurshuhaini, ranked 193rd in the world, made her comeback from injury at the Uganda International Challenge in Kampala last week but did not progress beyond the early rounds.

She is hoping for better fortunes when she plays in the Under-21 National Championships in Perak from March 15-19.“I’ve also been registered for the Vietnam International Challenge but I’m not sure if I can qualify for it.”
