NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh defended his party’s unsuccessful efforts to pressure the Trudeau government to cancel major corporate mergers from attacks by the Conservatives during a committee appearance on Monday, while slamming the Tories for failing to stand up to greed in the grocery sector. Singh was before the House industry committee to discuss his private member’s bill that would increase penalties for anti-competitive activities and ban corporate mergers that would result in 60 per cent or more of a market share belonging to one company. It would also require investigations by the Competition Bureau of mergers where one company would have 30 to 60 per cent of the market share.
