Singaporean kitefoiler Maximilian Maeder has been busy competing in regattas across Asia and Europe in preparation for the Paris Olympics. He recently won the Formula Kite title at the Trofeo Princesa Sofia in Spain.
SINGAPORE – Singapore an kitefoiler Maximilian Maeder has had a hectic eight months clocking miles across Asia and Europe since booking his ticket to the Paris Olympics last August.
While his rivals such as France’s world No. 1 Axel Mazella and third-ranked Maxime Nocher chose to skip the regatta to focus on their training programmes, Maximilian is taking a different approach. “I am happy to compete in these regattas and I enjoy all the mental aspects of it which includes dealing with the pressure and the various situations such as having to wait before going out to compete.”
Back on the water hours later, he finished first ahead of Italy’s world No. 2 Riccardo Pianosi, Cyprus’ Denis Taradin and 2022 Slovenian world champion Toni Vodisek.
