SINGAPORE: Singapore’s trade dynamics may help shield it from tariff risks expected under U.S.
President-elect Donald Trump’s second term, according to analysts at UOB Global Economics & Markets Research.
“There’s limited evidence to suggest Singapore is being used as a conduit to reroute Chinese exports to the U.S. to bypass tariffs,” Koh noted. However, analysts warn that unpredictability persists given Trump’s track record of withdrawing from trade agreements, such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership , and his threats of imposing significant tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico, which could violate the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement .
