SINGAPORE — Just weeks after becoming the Singaporean woman to win both the 100m and 200m events at the same edition of the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, Shanti Pereira set a new 100m national mark on Sunday (May 28).

At the 58th International Pentecost Sports Meeting in Rehlingen, Germany, the sprinter clocked a scintillating time of 11.26s to finish second in the final. This is the fastest time set by an Asian woman in the event in 2023.

In the heats earlier in the day, Pereira timed 11.34s to eclipse her previous national record of 11.37s set at the Australian Track and Field Open in Brisbane last month. The 26-year-old has rewritten her 100m national record five times this year and her 200m national mark thrice. Pereira's historic sprint double at the SEA Games earlier this month saw her clock a time of 22.69s in the 200m final at the Morodok Techo National Stadium in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. CNA
