From January 1, 2025, Singapore will enforce new safety regulations for higher-risk machinery and combustible dust to ensure safer operations. Suppliers and manufacturers must label combustible dust and provide safety instructions. The list of higher-risk machinery has been expanded, and manufacturers, suppliers, installers, and modifiers must ensure safety measures are met.
From January 1, 2025, companies in Singapore must adhere to new regulations aimed at ensuring the safer use of higher-risk machinery and combustible dust . The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) announced on November 29 that suppliers and manufacturers dealing with combustible dust must label related packages or containers to communicate the dangers and safe handling methods. Factory occupiers must inform the ministry and landlords when handling specified combustible dust at or above certain thresholds.
For example, a company handling plastic combustible dust weighing 100kg or more must notify MOM at least a month before starting its use in the facility. Additionally, the list of higher-risk machinery has been expanded to include industrial use of mixers, cutters, and packaging machines, among others. Manufacturers, suppliers, installers, and modifiers of these machines must ensure that they meet safety standards and provide detailed instructions on safe usage. The new rules will give buyers of machinery greater assurance that the equipment meets required safety standards. Buyers can also contact any of the five inspection companies listed under MOM’s inspection programme for safe machines
