SINGAPORE — Singapore recently had an outstanding performance at the 6th World Youth Tchoukball Championships, securing double gold medals in the boys Under-15 and girls Under-18 categories. The tournament took place at the Pasir Ris Recreation Centre and involved nine nations. In addition to their gold medals, the hosts also won three silvers and one bronze.
“We told our athletes to do the basics, to go out there and to enjoy the game. When the M15 boys match started, the team was very overwhelmed to be up against a strong team like Chinese Taipei but they did very well. I hope the gold medal wins today sends a message to the younger generation of tchoukballers that anyone can be a champion, so continue to work hard and be part of the tchoukball ecosystem,” shared TBAS president Delane Lim.
The U15 boys team faced a formidable Chinese Taipei side in the final, but their determination never wavered. Led by the impressive performance of their 15-year-old right shooter, Rayview Lim, Singapore staged a remarkable comeback and emerged victorious. The enthusiastic support of a 1,400-strong crowd fueled their momentum as they dominated the third and final period, ultimately securing Singapore’s first-ever boys’ title at the World Youth Championships.
Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, Edwin Tong, expressed his delight at the progress of tchoukball in Singapore. He specifically commended the leadership of the Tchoukball Association of Singapore for its instrumental role in nurturing talented young players.
