Two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep has withdrawn from Australian Open qualifying and a preparation tournament in Auckland, New Zealand, due to knee and shoulder pain. This marks another setback in her comeback journey following a drug suspension . Halep disclosed on social media that she felt unwell after participating in an exhibition in Abu Dhabi. She stated, 'After discussing with my team at length, we agreed it is sensible to delay the start of my season. It’s not what I wanted.
' The 33-year-old Romanian intends to compete in the Transylvania Open in her homeland, starting February 3. Last week, Halep received a wild-card entry for Australian Open qualifying. She was the runner-up at Melbourne Park in 2018 and claimed major titles at the French Open that same year and Wimbledon in 2019. Reaching a career-high ranking of No. 1, she is currently ranked 877th and hasn't played in a Grand Slam tournament since 2022 after a 1 1/2-year absence due to a doping ban
