A simulation exercise was conducted Friday morning at SM City Davao and its vicinity in Ecoland, Davao City, to test and enhance the city’s emergency response preparedness and public safety coordination.
The exercise, which began at 7:50 a.m., simulated critical incidents including armed robbery, hostage-taking, active shooting situations, and bomb threats. Davao City Police Office spokesperson Capt. Hazel Caballero said the activity aimed to assess the preparedness, discipline, visibility, and operational efficiency of personnel while improving coordination among responding units during emergencies.
“The exercise was designed to ensure swift, organized, and effective responses in managing critical incidents and protecting civilians,” Caballero said. As part of the activity, the DCPO also conducted an On-the-Spot Inspection and Correction involving personnel from the Mobile Patrol Unit, Traffic Enforcement Unit, and Ecoland Police Station. The inspection evaluated operational readiness and reinforced strict compliance with police procedures, while maintaining heightened alertness among deployed personnel.
Authorities said the initiative reflects the security cluster’s continuing efforts to strengthen emergency preparedness, enhance public safety measures, and improve rapid response capabilities across all units. During the inspection, DCPO Director Col. Peter Madria underscored the importance of coordination and clear communication among deployed personnel, emphasizing that officers must fully understand their roles and responsibilities during emergencies.
Madria also urged personnel to respond decisively to incidents such as armed robbery, hostage-taking, and active shooting situations, and to immediately implement lockdown protocols when necessary to secure affected areas and protect civilians. He added that preparedness, quick response, and strict adherence to operational procedures are vital not only for mission success but also for maintaining peace and order and strengthening public confidence in law enforcement operations.
