John Fowler, who was born and raised in St. John’s but now resides in B.C., says he brought inspiration from Newfoundland with him when cooking on The Great Canadian Baking Show. The new season, featuring Fowler among the bakers, debuts Oct. 2. - ContributedVICTORIA, B.C. — The Great Canadian Baking Show returns to television on Oct. 2, and, for local fans, a Newfoundlander is joining the cast this year.

“My grandmother is the reason I bake," Fowler says."She could bake anything – loaves of bread, muffins, squares, and gorgeous wedding cakes. We’d have toutons regularly. She always kicked people out of the kitchen when they tried to help, and I’m like that too.”“Sadly, that dream didn’t materialize, but she inspired me so much," he says.
