Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Paul McVeigh says the Wieambilla shooting which killed six people, including two police officers, is “devastating” for his community.

The two police officers were killed in an ambush as they attended a property in the rural town on Monday evening.A neighbour who responded to the gunfire was also killed in the ambush.

Mr McVeigh sent his heartfelt condolences to the families of the police officers killed in the attack. “Incidents like this should never happen in our region, in our state, or even in our nation,” he told Sky News Australia.
