“We are seeing a mix change from wants to needs,” Mr Heraghty said. He said Supercheap Auto, which has 330 stores, was in a strong position if economic conditions turned down. He said the average transaction value at the stores was $40, and the average “dwell” time of customers in the store was four minutes, signalling there wasn’t a large exposure to discretionary spending. “It plays both sides of the cycle”.
