The Thursday morning spill originated on a leased property near Letterkenny Army Depot in Franklin County, officials said.

that “an incident occurred at a facility leased to a private company outside of Letterkenny Army Depot property” Thursday. The leak was first reported around 9:30 a.m.

The shelter-in-place order is in effect across the army base while all personnel are accounted for, Letterkenny wrote on Facebook. “Franklin County Emergency services are at the scene to determine the nature and extent of the situation,” the Facebook post said. “We will be providing more details as soon as we know more.”

Chambersburg Borough Manager Jeffrey Stonehill said on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Chambersburg firefighters responded to a “large Hazmat spill” on the 800 block of Development Avenue in Letterkenny Township.
