It's been almost three years since the violent rampage across rural Nova Scotia and with the public inquiry looking into the tragedy ready to release its final report, the lengthy document is likely to reopen old wounds for manyMichael MacDonald, chair, flanked by fellow commissioners Leanne Fitch, left, and Kim Stanton, responds to lawyers representing some family members, at the Mass Casualty Commission inquiry into the mass murders in rural Nova Scotia on April 18/19, 2020, in Halifax on...
Since I can’t really say anything about any of the information that will be available ahead of time, I thought I’d share with you what I do know about how the report will look. They told us previously that the report will be organized thematically across seven volumes, and those are: Volume 1: Context and Purpose; Volume 2: What Happened; Volume 3: Violence; Volume 4: Community; Volume 5: Policing; Volume 6: Implementation and Volume 7: Process. And don’t expect any light reading from the heavy topics because they say the report will be somewhere between 2,000 to 3,000 pages.
They also told the accredited media this: “We understand no one will have the time to read the report in advance or even on the day of the release. We encourage everyone to take the time to read and process the report over the coming weeks, then begin the sustained and collaborative conversations and work required to implement the recommendations and improve the safety of our communities.”
