During examination by his own lawyer earlier Thursday, Shandro framed the complaints against him as politically motivated and offered differing versions of events. Shandro said Vital Partners was inundated with threatening emails and voice messages related to their alleged conflict of interest. On one occasion, Vital Partners closed its office and Calgary police took statements from the Shandros at their home after a threat .
“So every Albertan that I can kick off health care is another client we can sign up for Vital Partners! We’re going to be RICH!”Shandro, however, insisted he was neither yelling nor crying. Nor was his wife holding him, as the doctor claimed. Ken McEwan, a Vancouver lawyer representing the law society, noted a previous statement from Shandro’s press secretary said Shandro had asked Zaidi to delete the post.
